The DVD features this popular group of rogues who hang around various North London pubs
pumping out blues and generally swining their audiences. Herded together by singer/pianist
John Challis's shaking hand, this dvd really brings the liveliness of their performances
into your listening zone. Competent, energetic but most of all completely real, their music
calls you down to the local for a swift pint and a chat with your mates. Pete Abernethy scratches
out the tempo with his brushes as Graham Bird's bass vibrates beyond saftey tolerance levels a
rythym of his own making. Whilst John Gourd licks up the riffs and Challis growls into song, Tony
Rowlett, with hands like summer butterflies, wails his harmonica harmonies. All in all a pleasurable
night down a real blues pub without ever leaving your living room. The interviews are insightful and
reveal the men behind the music, thoughtful, sensitive caring individuals weighed down with their
own deep insights into the human condition and quietly bearing the suffering all musicians endure,
a dreadfully dry throat. |
