The Tell, Music for today tomorrow, the past and the future, brushing away the sands of time to reveal , truths , mysteries, and lies. The Enviro-Metal message in this Pagan orientated guitar -based rock, is the sound of today, The Tell are not just about stories.
The Tell originally formed as a song-writing duo in south east London early 2004. In those days, the west coast feel to the acoustic guitar and harmonies, brought comparisons to the Mama's & Papa's and Jefferson Airplane. Though the line up changed during 2006 / 07, we had 3 different bass players and a temporary vocalist The Tell is now a four-piece rock band, whose melodic vocals, ecstatic guitar, deep thought bass and awesome drumming have reminded listeners of Hawkwind, Velvet Underground and early Floyd.
From 2004 - 2007, The Tell played various benefit gigs in support of social-environmental campaigns, as well as gigging around the central London unsigned circuit. Early recordings of the songs 'Our Sign' and 'The Green Man' had airplay on Resonance FM, and other web-based stations including Pagan Radio. The line-up changed in 2008, With the addition of the current Bass player Richard Ball, Marcus Ballard on Guitar/lead and vocals, Mairi Mills on vocals, Phildas Bhakta on drums.
In 2007, co-founder and technical wiz, Marcus, joined online virtual world, Second Life, to establish another platform for the band. As 'TheTell Merlin', Marcus became a Mentor, and worked out the mechanics of putting the band on in SL . In May 08, Marcus made the song 'Knot' available in SL, the first song that played all the way through without gaps. Listeners clamoured to hear more, and word of the band got out. Marcus equipped the band with the right gear and the right animations, and figured out how to stream the music, and in the Autumn, a year after joining SL, the band started to gig.
Overcoming the technical challenges involved with performing in the living room while streaming to SL, has also led to the band streaming their recent Performances live to anyone wanting to listen online. The drummer may be on tape, but the band is in the living room, and the technological wizardry increases in leaps and bounds!
The Tell are also available for RL gigs from 2009, and will be releasing their debut album: 'Part of the Story' in the New Year. Find news of gigs and the album at www.myspace.com/thetell2012
